Acorns 3 Counties Childrens Hospice - Charity Ladies Luncheon

On Wednesday 29th April 2009, The Greenway Hotel in Shurdington, Cheltenham is hosting a Special Ladies Luncheon in aid of Acorns 3 Counties Children's Hospice. Where over 50 families in Gloucestershire are receiving care for life-limited children.

The Gloucestershire Support Group are appealing to any local business, organization, or individual who is able to donate a prize that can be auctioned off at the end of the Luncheon in order to help realize much needed funds for the Hospice. Please contact Mr. Paul Cooper at: paul.cooper@thegreenway.co.uk for further information on donations.

The cost for one day's care per child is currently £450, only 10% is provided by the NHS which leaves 90% to be met through the generosity of the public. This is why every pound raised on the day and afterwards will help these children and their families.

Some Further Information on Acorns Children’s Hospice

Acorns Three Counties Children’s Hospice is available to families with limited children living in the counties of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

In 1999 the three acre plot of land in Bath Road, Worcester was a gift from an elderly couple who were unable to have children of their own, but they were deeply touched by the battles of the seriously ill children.

Build in of the hospice began in 2003 after a successful campaign to raise the 4 million pounds required by local people, communities and businesses.

On the 14th of March 2005 the state of the art facility providing specialist care for life limited children and their families opened its doors.

Bright colours fill the building and every piece of furniture from wheelchair height sinks to the intelligent door system has been designed to make the young people who use this facility feel as comfortable as possible

Each of the ten bedrooms is specially equipped and has a glass door leading to landscaped gardens – big enough to push the hi tech electric beds outside on a summers day.

There is an adolescent’s wing where teenagers have their own bedrooms, a lounge complete with a large screen TV, stereo and games system, a kitchen area and a barbecue area in the garden, giving them some space away from younger children as well as privacy and independence.

The hospice has a hydrotherapy pool as well as a multi-sensory room. Other features include a lounge, dining room, hobbies room, music room, with activities for different age groups.
There are two special bedrooms where bereaved families can spend time with their child before the funeral.

Funds to Children’s Hospice rely on the generosity of each of us – the cost for one days care per child is currently £450. The Government provides 10%

Acorns Gloucestershire Support Group.
